TiViMate on Android: Playlist, Guide and the Premium Question

From a blank screen to live television

1. Check what the device actually runs before you go further

   This is the step that saves an hour. TiViMate is an Android application: Android TV, Google TV, a Fire TV stick or box, or a generic Android media box. If the screen in front of you is a Samsung or an LG television, an Apple TV or an iPhone, there is no version to find and searching for one is time thrown away - use IPTV Smarters on Apple hardware, or the television's own player on Samsung and LG. Worth settling at the same time: is this the box you keep? Everything that makes TiViMate worth paying for rewards a machine you use daily in one room, not a stick that lives in a bag.

2. Install it, or sideload it on Fire TV

   On Android TV and Google TV it is in the Play Store and installs like anything else. Fire TV is the awkward one, because Amazon does not carry it: switch on installs from unknown sources, install the Downloader app - orange icon, by AFTVnews - and pull the file in that way. The Firestick guide sets out that sequence properly. On a phone you can install TiViMate too, although the interface is built for a remote and a television across the room rather than a thumb, so most people use it on the phone only to check something quickly.

3. Add the account as an Xtream login, not as a link

   Open it and choose to add a playlist, then pick the Xtream Codes login option. It asks for the server address with its port, then the username, then the password, and moves on. It will not ask you for an M3U link and does not want one: the Xtream route brings the program data, the catch-up sections and the on-demand library with it, where a bare playlist would give you channels and little else. Type the password rather than pasting it in, because text lifted out of a chat has a habit of carrying a space you cannot see.

4. Name the playlist for the room, not for yourself

   It asks for a name. If you only ever have one, anything will do - but if you later add a second, which the paid license allows, the names are what tell them apart on a dark screen at night. Naming them after places works better than naming them after accounts. It then offers you the channel categories to include. Pick broadly for now; the choice is editable later and a guide that is missing a category you forgot about is more annoying than a list that is slightly too long.

5. Let the guide build, and set it to refresh on its own

   Channels appear quickly and the guide takes its time, which is normal on a large line-up. In the settings for the TV guide, set the refresh to run every twelve hours so it keeps itself current without you thinking about it. There is no separate guide address to paste anywhere: the program data comes with the Xtream login you already entered, which is one of the reasons the Xtream route is worth taking. Give the grid five minutes of genuine use before you change any of its display settings.

6. Decide about Premium, and buy it in the right place

   Recording, multi-view and a second playlist are what the license unlocks. Roughly $9.99 buys a year of it, or a single lifetime payment somewhere in the mid-thirties, with seven days of trial first so you can judge whether those three things earn the money. Now the detail that catches almost everybody out. None of that purchase happens on the television. It happens on a phone, inside a separate application named TiViMate Companion, and people hunt around the big screen for half an hour before somebody tells them. The license belongs to the app developer, sits wholly outside your plan with us, and we neither sell it nor earn anything from it.

7. Prove it works before the evening you need it

   Play a channel and leave it running for a few minutes rather than a few seconds. Open the grid and move forward to tomorrow evening to confirm the guide really filled rather than loading the first hour. If you took Premium, set one recording and check that it appears. Then do the thing most people skip: write your server address, username and password somewhere you can reach from another house, because this box is the one that stays behind and you will want those three values the first time you set up a screen somewhere else.

Where it tends to stall, and the fix

It reports that the playlist could not be loaded

Work through it in this order. Confirm the server address still carries its port number. Retype the password by hand instead of pasting it, since a copied space is invisible and fatal. Confirm the plan has not reached its end date, which produces the same message and has nothing to do with the app. If all three check out, send us the exact wording on WhatsApp: the phrasing of the failure tells us more than a description of it does.

The guide shows no information against any channel

Force an update from the guide settings and then restart the app rather than only backing out of the screen. A first download across a large line-up can also simply take longer than people leave it, particularly on an older box or a slow connection, so start it and go and make a cup of tea. If a handful of channels stay blank while everything else fills in, those channels have no data published rather than the guide being broken.

You moved the box and now nothing plays

A box that has been unplugged and carried to another house is still trying to join the network it remembers. Put it on the new Wi-Fi first and confirm it really has internet before you blame the player. Then consider the connection itself: a shared line in a holiday let behaves quite differently at nine in the evening than at noon. And if the network shows a sign-in page before it gives out internet, a television box cannot get through it, so use a phone hotspot or a travel router that handles the sign-in for you.

Premium is missing on the second box

The license was bought through a store account on a phone, so the device you expect it on has to be signed in to that same store account, and the companion app needs to have run there at least once. Do not buy it twice on a hunch; take the seven-day trial on the second box while you sort it out. Support here cannot see, move or refund it, because it is the app developer's product rather than part of an IPTVGREAT plan.
