Read the tier as a count of simultaneous streams rather than a count of gadgets you own, because that is the only thing it limits. Read the term as a stretch of calendar rather than a contract, because nothing on this page renews itself, and we keep no card to renew it with.
Install the player on everything you have. The television at home, the stick that lives in a bag, a phone, a laptop, the set in the other place: the same login works on all of them, there is no charge per device and nothing to activate twice. What the tier decides is how many of those can be running at once.
That distinction does most of its work when a household is spread over two addresses. Somebody at the coast watching an early kick-off while somebody at home watches something else is two streams at the same time, even though only one television is on at each end. A two-screen plan covers that evening; a one-screen plan will refuse to start the second stream until the first stops.
So count the busiest evening rather than an average one. If the honest answer is two most of the year and four in August, either buy for August or start smaller and move up when you need to: an upgrade is charged as the difference for the time left on your term, and the username and password do not change, so no screen anywhere has to be touched.

Buying month by month for a year costs $111 more than one twelve-month term on a single screen, and $181 more on two. Three-month blocks close most of that gap: $47 on one screen. Six-month blocks leave $21 in it.
None of which makes the longest term automatically the right one. The rate is what the commitment buys; what it costs is flexibility. If you have never had this running on your own equipment, a month first is the sensible purchase, and the trial before it costs nothing at all. If you already know how it behaves on the connections you use, the twelve-month term is the cheapest month available here and there is no reason to pay the short-term rate for it.
Matching the term to the calendar
