The Channel List Travels With the Login, Not the Television

Most channel lists are read at the kitchen table, by somebody deciding whether to pay. Read this one for the other week too: the fortnight in a rented cottage, the Monday-to-Friday room near work, the spare bed at a parent's house. The line-up belongs to the login rather than to the building, so the sixteen groups below are what loads wherever you sign in, in the same order, with nothing to re-book and no engineer involved.

Two habits make a list this size usable. The first is the search box: three letters find a channel faster than any amount of scrolling, and it is the only tool that works the same in every player. The second is subtraction — hide the groups you will never open on the device you use most, and what is left is a short, personal list rather than a catalog.

Cutting the list down before you go anywhere

The five minutes below are worth spending at home, on the device you watch most, while you have a keyboard and a decent connection. Doing it for the first time in a rented living room, standing up, with a remote you have never held, is how people decide television is complicated.

1. Hide the groups you are never going to open

   Every player has a way to turn categories off. Switch off the dozen groups that are not yours and the list stops being a catalog. This is a setting on that device, so it does not follow you, which is the next point.

2. Build one favorites group of about twenty channels

   Not fifty. Twenty is the number you can walk down with a remote without reading. Sport, news, one film channel, whatever the children watch. It becomes the list you rebuild in two minutes anywhere else.

3. Write those twenty down somewhere that is not the television

   A note on your phone is enough. A fresh install on a borrowed screen shows every group and remembers nothing, and the channel name you cannot quite recall is always the one you wanted first.

4. Learn the search box in your player, not just the one on this page

   The apps have their own search. Find it once at home and you can get to a channel on any unfamiliar remote in about eight keystrokes, which beats scrolling past thousands of entries.

5. Keep the HD copy of your main channels beside the 4K one

Films and series on the same login

Beside the live channels sits a separate library of films and box sets, filed by genre, by year and by the platform the series came from. New arrivals appear regularly and complete runs of series sit next to them. It is not a replacement for a streaming platform and we will not pretend it is, but it covers the evenings when nothing live is worth sitting down for.

It also behaves better than a live channel on a weak line. An on-demand file can load ahead of you while you watch; a live stream has nothing in front of it to load. On a shared connection in a rented flat, or on a laptop in a room where the signal comes and goes, that difference is the reason the library gets used more when you are away than when you are at home.

What this page is not promising

It is a description of the line-up, not a fixture list and not a guarantee about any single night. Rights move between broadcasters from one season to the next, channels are renamed, and feeds are added and retired. That is normal for every provider in this business and anyone telling you otherwise is selling harder than they are thinking.
