1. Decide where these three values are going to live

   Do this before you set up anything, because the moment you need them is never the moment you are sitting at your own desk. A password manager is the tidy answer. A note locked behind the phone's own security is a workable one. A photograph of the chat in a camera roll that syncs to a laptop your family shares is not, and neither is a piece of paper in a drawer at home, which is precisely where you will not be. Whatever you choose has to open on a phone, offline, in a room with somebody else's Wi-Fi - that is the test. Never post them into a forum, a group chat or a support thread on a website you do not control.

2. Find the Xtream option in whatever player you have

   The wording shifts from app to app and it is always the same thing. One calls it a login with the Xtream Codes API, another an Xtream Codes login, others shorten it to Xtream or simply API. If a player offers you both this and a playlist field, take this one every time. It is not a matter of taste: the Xtream route carries the program guide, the catch-up sections and the on-demand library, where a playlist frequently arrives with channels and nothing else and leaves you convinced half your subscription is missing.

3. Type the server address, and nothing after the port

   This one field is behind most failed logins, everywhere, on every platform. It wants http:// at the front, then the address, then a colon and the port number, and then it wants you to stop. Nothing goes after the port - no slash, no word, no page name copied out of a browser. Do not change http to https because it looks safer, and do not drop the port because the address looks complete without it. Read it from the message character by character. If a field refuses it, the mistake is nearly always an extra character rather than a missing one.

4. Enter the username and password exactly as sent

   Both are case sensitive, so a capital where a small letter belongs is a failed login with no explanation attached. Two things quietly break this. Television keyboards like to capitalize the first character of any field, so check the first letter before you confirm. And text copied out of a chat often brings an invisible space with it, which is why typing the password by hand is faster in the end than pasting it twice. The profile name a player asks for alongside them is decoration - call it after the room and it will make sense to you in a year.

5. Save it, and let the account come down

   Once accepted, the player pulls the channel list, the on-demand section and the program data on its own. Channels appear first and the guide takes longer, particularly on a large line-up or a tired connection, so give it a few minutes before deciding something has gone wrong. Nothing else needs pasting in: with an Xtream login there is no separate guide address to hunt for, which is one more reason to prefer it when a player offers you the choice.

6. Prove it on a second screen while you are still at home

   The best time to discover that you have written down the wrong port is a quiet Tuesday in your own kitchen, not a Friday night in a rented one. Put the same three values into a player on your phone, watch a channel for a minute, and you have simultaneously tested the credentials, the note you stored them in, and your own ability to read them back. Then get into the habit that matters on other people's hardware: when you sign into a screen you do not own, take the profile off again before you leave it behind.

Where it tends to stall, and the fix

The app rejects the server address

Strip it back to the shape it should have: http, then the address, then the port, then nothing. Remove anything you added after the port number. Put back the port if it was left off. Leave http as http. If the player has a separate box for the port, put the port in that box and only the address in the other one, which is the usual cause on the players that split the field in two.

A message about too many connections

Your plan allows a set number of streams at the same time, and that number has been reached - which, when you are away, usually means a screen at home is still playing. A paused stream is not always a stopped one, so close the app properly on the device you are not using rather than turning the television off at the wall. If the household genuinely needs more screens running at once, move up a tier; installs are unlimited and it is only simultaneous streams that are counted.

The player only has a box for a playlist link

Some older and simpler players never learned this format and want a single long address instead. Where a player offers you both, the Xtream route remains the better one.

You cannot find the message with the details in it

Message us on WhatsApp and we will send them again into the same chat, which is exactly why the chat is where they live. Do not ask for them in a public comment section, a forum post or any group with people in it you cannot name. Anyone holding those three values holds your subscription, and the fix for that - reissuing them and reconfiguring every screen you own - is an afternoon nobody enjoys.
